Roberto Fabra is a Master in Visual Poetics by the Santa Marcelina University in São Paulo, Brazil. His artistic research involves the use of photographic images where he explores figurative or abstract representations. The results of his research are paintings, photographs, installations, drawings, book-objects and artist books. His works have already been exhibited in several museums and galleries in Switzerland, Brazil, Wales, Denmark, Argentina, Germany, Kazakhstan and Portugal and are present in private and public collections.
Are we different from a star?
This question probably came from Roberto´s long interest in outer space and its many mysteries.
The Series «Are we different from a star» is comprised of abstract images that Roberto makes inspired by the idea of chemicals floating around in space. But when those chemicals combine and the results are as diverse as orbiting planets, viruses, or talking and thinking people, then the madness is cranked up to the point of intrigue. Those moments when the combination happens are fascinating, the possibilities are limitless. He has always been interested in how this process begins, develops, and produces so many different results and he tries to materialize these results in colors and shapes. The universe seems like a giant laboratory to him. And that is how he approaches his own art production. Experimentation plays a big part in his daily research for painting, sculpture, installation, drawing and photography.
This open series of photos that he presents here is the result of a process in which he does not use a camera. All images are purely digital, created with computer programs and then printed on photographic paper using an age-old process. Which is an interesting contrast per se (using very modern technology to create the images but depending on an ancient printing process to make them available to the public).
So, he invites the viewers to look at these images and let their thoughts take them on an inner journey of introspection, reflection, and stillness.
